Hello and welcome to my first blog post!
The purpose of my blog will be so you can learn more about me, go behind the scenes of my sessions, and see what it's like to work with me. Like all well intentioned ideas, my goal will be to update the blog as much as possible. I'm going into this with full transparency that my life is hectic and there may be times where the blog is on the back burner, but I promise to come back with more.
So let's get started.
I'm Karisa (pronounced Ka-re-sa). I know it's easy to mispronounce my name which is why I specify how to say it. Just put an "e" where the "i" is and you're good. Don't worry if you don't get it right. I've been correcting how my name is pronounced since Kindergarten; If you call me Karissa or Theresa, I promise I’ll still respond.
I grew up in a small town in central PA (less than 1000 in the town according to the latest census data). I went to college in the Philadelphia Suburbs and continued to live there for 4 years after graduation. In 2016, I moved to the Lancaster area to be closer to my (now) husband’s family, and I’ve been here ever since. I love this area. For me, it is the perfect combination of country and nature with enough things to do and places to go. Then again, I grew up with nothing but farmland surrounding me and the closest mall was 45 minutes away. It’s a great place to raise my family. I am blessed with 3 young children ages 4 and under, so my life is loud, messy, full of sticks and rocks, and bumps and bruises. More often than not, I’m in a t-shirt with my hair pulled up, and if we ever do a phone call together, just know that you will probably hear my kids in the background.
I’ve loved photography since high school. I loved it when I used a disposable camera that I had to send the film off to get developed. I’ve loved it since I had my first digital camera (red), and I loved my first DSLR camera that I got as a college graduation gift from my parents.
I’ve upgraded my equipment quite a bit since that time, and I’ve spent numerous hours learning, growing, educating, and practicing my skills. In this time, I have discovered what I am passionate about documenting (and what I’m not). I specialize in senior picture and portrait photography. I enjoy developing a relationship with each client and believe that part of fostering that relationship is getting to know each other. Our session together is more than me just taking your picture: we’ll talk, learn about each other, and take some amazing photos along the way.
I know finding a photographer can be daunting. I know being in front of a camera does not come naturally for most people. Let me help you have the best experience possible. Let’s create memories together.
